'No PMO officer ever spoke to former UTI chairman'

The Prime Minister's Office late on Tuesday said that none of its officers ever spoke to former UTI chairman P S Subramanyam in a bid to influence the mutual fund into investing in Cyberspace LTD, a Lucknow-based company.

"Our attention has been drawn to the reports in a section of the media alleging that the PMO tried to influence the UTI into investing in Cyberspace.

"It is clarified that no officer in the PMO ever spoke to the former UTI chairman," a PMO spokesman said.

The clarification came in the wake of Sanjay Nirupam, Shiv Sena member in the Rajya Sabha, dragging the PMO in the UTI muddle by claiming that two of the calls made by Subramanyam from Bombay were traced to PMO.
