UTI chairman resigns

Unit Trust of India Chairman P S Subramanyam has resigned following the mess in India's largest mutual fund after the announcement of suspension of its flagship scheme US-64 for six months sending shock waves among 20 million investors.

Subramanyam sent in his resignation on Tuesday night after Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha decided to scrutinise UTI's functioning, official sources said on Wednesday.
