Investments in rail line projects up by 45%

Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee has not taken up any new project but hiked the investment in the line projects by 45 per cent.

Two projects to be completed during the year are Puttaparti-Penukonda section of Dharmavaram-Penukonda Project and Kashinagar-Kakdweep section of Lakshmikantapur-Namkhana project.

Among the Metropolitan Transport Projects, Belapur-Panvel line would be commissioned for commuter traffic and the fifth line between Santa Cruz-Andheri.

Dum Dum-Tala section has been electrified so also Ranaghat Gede.

Ranaghat Bongoan is to be completed this year and also the link between Ultadanga and Rajarhat to connect Dum Dum airport to Titagarh in North and Garia in South.

A memorandum of understanding between Andhra Pradesh government and the Railways has been signed to strengthen the existing suburban infrastructure and services in Hyderabad.

For 1999-2000, the production units achieved targets. The Kapurthala Railway Coach Factory (RCF) and Wheel and Axel Plant of Bangalore are to receive 14,001 Environmental Management Certification for Management Standard Systems.

The RCF, which bagged an export order of 72 metre gauge bogies from Vietnam, has also won Golden Peacock Environment Management Award.

The DLW Varanasi has earned an order for 12 diesel locos from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The CLW manufactures 'Navbharati', a new Wheel and Axle Plant-7 loco which can haul 26 coach train at 140 kmph.

The sections where gauge-conversion has been completed or will be completed by March 2001 are Nonera-Seoni section of Guna-Etawah project, Raxaul-Birganj section and Gandhidham-Bhuj sector.

The conversions that would be completed during 2001-02 were Seoni-Bhind, Amguri-Tuli, Makum-Dangri, Laxmantirtha Bridge, Gooty-Pendakallu, Dhargadara-Kuda and Wankaner-Morbi.

Track Doubling target for the year has been fixed at 200 km for the current year and 300 km for 2001-02.

New doubling projects included in the budget are Ernakulam-Mulanturutti section on Ernakulam Kottayam-Kayamkulan line, Bandel-Jirat section on Bandel Katwa line, Baruipur to Magraghat, Harishchadrapur-Kumarganj section on Malda Kumedpur line.

Gooty Renugunda section doubling of remaining single line sections.

The ongoing works, that have been extended, were Sultanganj-Deogarh new line project with a new link from Banka to Barahat. Extension of BDR gauge conversion by a new link from Bowai-chandi to Khana to connect Midnapur, Bankura and Purulia.

Extension of Mansi-saharsa conversion up to Dauram Madhepur has been included in the budget. The conversion between Krishnanagar-Shantipur as an extension to the sanctioned doubling from Kalinarayanapur to Krishnanagar.

Extension of Fatua-Islampur-Dhaniawan-Biharsharif new railway line project to Barbhigha, and extending of sanctioned doubling project from Kalinarayanapur to Krishnanagar by linking Krishnanagar to Charatala on Krishnagar-Karimpur.

Extension of Rajkot-Veraval GC project by taking up gauge conversion from Wansjalia to Jetalsar, Eklakshi Balurghat project through a new link from Gazol to Itahar as phase one of Gazol-Raiganj.

Extension of Rewari Sadulpur conversion project up to Hissar, extension of Kanpur-Mathura-Kasganj-Bareilly conversion to Lalkuan, Lumding-Badarpur-Silchar project Baraigram from Badarpur, extension of sanctioned conversion from Ajmer-Chhitiaurgarh-Udaipur project to Umra and New line from Banka-Bhitiah as extension to Sultanganj Deogarh new line project.

Three restoration works to be taken up during the year 2001-02 were Nasipur (Azimganj) Jianganj line, Teesta Valley narrow Gauge line from Sevok to Gillikohla to benefit people of Sikkim and West Bengal, the Home State of Ms Banerjee and Mogra Tarakeshwar line.

The New Moinaguri-Jogighopa line to be routed through Changrabandha to facilitate better communication links with neighbouring states.
