Hindustan Lever raises prices of key products

Consumer goods giant Hindustan Lever Limited (HLL) has raised prices of some of its key detergents, toothpaste and skincare brands because of higher raw material costs, a company spokesman said on Saturday.

HLL is the country's largest consumer goods company and is 51 per cent owned by Anglo-Dutch Unilever Plc.

The price of Surf detergent has been raised to Rs 82 from Rs 78 previously per kilo pack. Surf is a market leader in the premium detergents segment.

The price of Fair & Lovely cream, a market leader in the skincare segment, has gone up to Rs 27 from Rs 26 per 25 gram tube.

The price of toothpaste brand Pepsodent has been raised to Rs 38 from Rs 32 per pack, while the price of Close-Up toothpaste has been raised to Rs 35 from Rs 32.

The revised prices were effective on all fresh stock shipped from the company, the spokesman said.

He said higher costs of soda ash and linear alkyle benzene had pushed up the manufacturing costs of Surf, while an inflationary impact of higher petro-product prices on raw materials increased the costs for skincare products.

On Friday, HLL's share price closed at Rs 216.35 on the Bombay Stock Exchange, down Rs 1.7.
