National Stock Exchange to offer index options soon: Narain

India's largest stock exchange, the National Stock Exchange (NSE), will soon begin offering options trading on stock indices, NSE managing director Ravi Narain said on Friday.

"We have started training programmes for trading members and the product should be launched in the next few weeks," Narain said.

The exchange began trading index-linked futures in June 2000.

"The rise in volume in the index-futures segment has been very gradual," Narain said. He expects activity to pick up, as new derivatives are made available to investors.

Average daily turnover of index futures totalled about Rs 40 million ($862,000) last June, and rose to Rs 220 million in January.

Nearly 200 of the NSE's 850 member brokers are currently registered to trade futures.
