Govt to evolve consensus on India's approach at WTO meet

The government on Thursday assured the Lok Sabha that it would strive to evolve a consensus among political parties on the approach India should adopt at the crucial WTO ministerial meeting in Doha later this year.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pramod Mahajan said the government will have no hesitation in going ahead with a threadbare discussion in the House on the issue that are expected to come up during the WTO meeting.

Raising the issue during zero hour, P C Thomas, Kerala Congress, said farmers in the country were facing hardships and India should effectively put forth their case at the WTO meeting.

He said since certain amendments relating to the agriculture sector were expected to be taken up, government should consult all political parties to ascertain their views.
