CBI picks up Ketan's kin for questioning in pay-order scam

The CBI on Wednesday questioned Kirit Parekh, a relation of leading stock broker Ketan Parekh, in connection with the Rs 1.37- billion Bank of India pay-order scam.

Kartik, a director of Panther Investtrade Ltd, is an uncle of Ketan. He was called to the CBI's Bank Fraud and Securities Cell on Wednesday after he was discharged from a hospital.

"We are questioning him with regard to the flow of funds, specially with regard to the pay orders," a CBI official said.

Ketan's cousin Kartik, who is also a director of Panther, has already been arrested and remanded with Ketan to CBI custody till April 9.

Meanwhile, the agency released B H Somaiah, an assistant general manager of Bank of India's BSE branch, after questioning him.

A CBI official denied that he was arrested and said Somaiah was only picked up for questioning in connection with the scam as it was at the BSE branch that the pay orders presented by the companies, allegedly belonging to Ketan Parekh, were discounted.
