Sun Pharma unit to file 12 ANDAs in US

E-Mail this report to a friend

Indian pharmaceuticals firm Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited is ready to file about 12 abbreviated new drug applications (ANDAs) through its American unit over the next two years to boost its presence in the US markets, the Press Trust of India said on Thursday.

"We will file four to six ANDAs through our US arm Caraco Pharmaceutical Laboratories every year over the next two years," PTI quoted the firm's managing director Dilip Sanghvi as saying.

ANDAs are filed for registration of generics, for molecules slated to go off patent in the US market in a few years time.

Sanghvi said Caraco had filed five ANDAs before the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), approvals for three of which were expected soon.

Sun holds a 48 per cent stake in Caraco, a generic formulation maker based in Detroit in the US, acquired at an investment of $7.5 million. It has also invested $5.3 million in the company as debt.
