Kabir Bedi to host DD's game show Knockout

Kabir BediInternationally-acclaimed star Kabir Bedi will host Knockout, yet another thrilling and exciting game show which will go on air on Sundays starting January 28 on Doordarshan's popular national network.

With its launch viewers will be offered one more game show, some of the others being Kaun Banega Crorepati on Star Plus hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, Sawaal Das Crore Ka hosted by Anupam Kher and Manisha Koirala and Jab Khelo Sab Khelo hosted by Shekhar Suman on SabE TV.

Kabir Bedi, who has acted in a James Bond movie Octopussy, feels that hosting a show will be a challenge. "The programme is unique and I am going to give my best," he said during an informal chat with newsmen.

Knockout comes from the house of Cinevista, which has carved a niche in entertainment arena.

However, Cinevista managing director Sunil Mehta refused to divulge any format of the new game show. "What I can say is it is going to be unique, wait for some more time. Today I am just here to introduce Kabir," he said when repeatedly asked about the details of the show.

Mehta claimed that Knockout will be a unique game show with a never-before-format. "And a very, very special promise -- out here, everyone wins," he said, adding that even members of the audience stood a chance to win.

The highest amount that can be won every week is over Rs 10 million.

"It is different from other shows. It will be only once a week, that too on Sundays. Moreover, DD still has a wider reach and viewers," he said. "What I will suggest, just wait for some more time," he said.

About the host Kabir Bedi, he said, "Kabir is very handsome, good in built and health, has a good height and looks, a great personality, an endearing smile, a great voice, maturity and intellect -- and hence was a natural choice for Knockout."

When asked about Amitabh Bachchan who hosts KBC, Kabir Bedi said, "He is a popular actor. He is successful and everyone respects him. Only thing I can say about him is to salute him.''

"I started on the small screen by hosting a show for Delhi Doordarshan while in college. Three decades later, this is a homecoming for me in more ways than one,'' he said.

An impressive array of talents has been lined up for the show from set design, lighting, director, cinematography, sound, scripting and music to a seamless system to handle viewer and participant response, which is expected to run in millions, Cinevista sources said.

A multi-media promotion campaign including television, print, radio, outdoor and the Internet will be launched soon inviting people to participate in the programme.
