Mori moots 3-pronged strategy to boost IT ties

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori on Thursday proposed a three-pronged strategy to boost bilateral relations between India and Japan in the information technology sector, including training of IT professionals in Japanese language, holding an Indo-Japanese summit and organising frequent symposiums.

"Through the provision of training for IT engineers in the Japanese language and Japanese business practices, and the holding of an Indo-Japanese IT summit and IT symposiums, I hope to promote interchange in the sphere of IT in private sector," Mori said speaking at the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in New Delhi.

He repeated his statement made in Bangalore that Japan was about to launch expansive measures on the issuance of multiple entry visas.

He said the purpose of his visit to the Bangalore was to see the current situation of India's IT industry with his own eyes and to send a strong message of co-operation with India in this field.

Promoting the IT revolution was one of the priority policies of his cabinet, Mori said, adding, "I am taking the lead in that."

The 'Okinawa Charter' on IT, that he announced at the Kyushu-Okinawa summit last month, was to recognise IT as being the key to prosperity of the world in the 21st century and to empower people all over the world with the ability to utilise IT productivity, he added.
