Apple's latest iPhone -- thinner, lighter and with a 4-inch screen -- went on sale in India with a starting price of Rs 45,500.

The iPhone 5, which Apple Inc CEO Tim Cook said was the "fastest-selling" phone in history, sports a 4-inch "retina" display and is 20 percent lighter than the iPhone 4S.

Talking to reporters in Mumbai, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of telecom giant, Bharti-Airtel, Ramesh Menon expressed joy over being associated with the phone. Locals in the city also said that the phone has a classy feel to it.

Brimming with happiness, the first buyer of the much-awaited phone in New Delhi said that his long wait finally came to an end with the launch.
