We start this series with the story of Anindya Kumar Banerjee's parents

Banerjee writes:

This is a story that ended post V-Day, exactly 50 years after it began

It began in 1956 when my father went to attend his elder sisters wedding and saw his lady love who was the groom's youngest sister.

At the time, my father was a part-time employee with a contractor in the upcoming steel plant in Bhilai which was being built in Russian collaboration.

On February 17, 1959 he got married to his lady love in Kolkata, without much fanfare and then he returned to Bhilai.

But the story has just begun.

He then approached the administration and got her employed as a school teacher.

The story went on till April 30, 1960 when the first child was born a daughter who grew up as the best educated child of the parents who themselves were not fortunate enough to get higher education.

The hero of this story was just a Class 10 pass though Heroine of this story was a graduate from BHU.

They had a son (me) in 1966. The heroine of this story worked as a teacher for 28 years and took voluntary retirement in August 1988 because her health started deteriorating.

In 1995 the hero also retired from the steel plant as a worker.

Meanwhile, both their children got married and were settled.

The son chose to return and lived with his parents for almost a decade, till 2003.

In 2004, the story took twist. They shifted from Bhilai to Kolkata to live in the City of Joy.

In 2009 my mother was diagnosed with Tongue Cancer.

She was operated on February 20, 2010 -- exactly 3 days after their 49th wedding anniversary.

The agony continued for a little over a year and on February 24, 2011 she left the world.

The story does not end here.

The hero of this story held his nerve.

He never cried when he lost his mother or father but after her demise he was shattered. He began neglecting his medication and exactly 15 months later, he too left this world.

I cannot go into the details but he could not bear the separation of 50 years and 7days very easily.

Now they are in heaven, living happily ever after.

I am sure there might be stories of togetherness and separations but since this is close to my heart I always remember them for their love, affection and affection for all the family members always.
