Dreamy Patel of Orlando, Florida, has been awarded the Ms Southeast America 2014 title by the Ms America Pageant.

Unlike, the Miss America pageant, which is for women between the age of 18 to 24, the Ms America pageant is open to women 26 years of age and above irrespective of marital status. Patel will compete for the title of Ms America next month in Brea, California.

“I hope to bring the title home to Florida and continue spreading my positive message of empowering young females by emphasising importance of education,” she said.

The selection process for receiving a title was done by submitting an application, photo and followed up by an interview over the phone.

Patel, an electrical engineer, works at Lockheed Martin as a lead engineer. She is also starting her MBA at Penn State.

The Ms America Pageant will award over $40,000 in gift and prizes at this year’s national finals.

This is the first time Patel has participated in a pageant.

“I was already involved with multiple activities that the pageant requires,” she said, “such as various community services -- raising osteoporosis awareness, empowering young kids to better education and profession, and being a speaker at concerts.”

She said she has offers to act in Hindi films. “Five years from now I see myself as a wife and a mother of a beautiful family.”

Her father is a doctor and mother is a microbiologist. She has a younger brother.
