Selecting the right theme
Selecting a theme before a photo shoot is very important.
It helps the photographer and the model/actor to deliver the expected result with minimum confusion. Generally theme-based photo shoots are preferred by established models and actors to feature themselves in a particular look.
The newbies however should get a combined set of looks.
Right capture
Everyone looks good. I personally hate to use the term photogenic as every individual is unique and if captured from the right angle and at the right moment, can create wonders.
Editing
Since photography now has gone digital photo editing softwares play an important role, in some cases as important as the shoot itself. I would like to tell clients to have complete trust in the photographer and not judge a picture till the final one is delivered.
Importance of lights
Photography is a Greek word that can be translated as 'write with light'.
So the correct lighting is key to a good picture. Lighting for a photo shoot would depend on an actor/ model as each individual has unique features and each will look good in a different kind of lighting set up.
Make-up/Hair
Make-up and hair is another important aspect of a good photo shoot. The make-up person has an ability to increase or decrease the quality of pictures by her/his work.
It is important that the photographer and make-up/ hair person work in unison to achieve the perfect result (especially in a theme-oriented shoot).
Expressions
Expressions are the only thing that make a picture from being good to 'wow'. It is always better for aspiring models/actors to practice the expressions in front of a mirror before the shoot so they do not get confused during the shoot.
However good the picture is technically (composition and lighting) expressions are the only thing that will make it life-like.
Get a good stylist
A stylist is the person who studies the model and suggest a particular style that suits her/him best for the shoot. A stylist essentially decides what a model should wear and how s/he should wear it.
