In the Hindu epic, Mahabharata, there was a warrior named Abhimanyu (Arjun's son) who is said to have learnt a war skill when he was in the womb of his mother. He could only learn to decode and enter the trap (Chakarvyuh) because by that time her mother felt asleep.

This was one of the reasons why he was killed because he did not know how to come out of the trap.

Ashtavakra Tale

The sage Uddalaka, married her daughter Sujata to his best disciple Kahola (or Kahoda). When Sujata got pregnant, she had the desire of wanting her child to imbibe spirituality and intelligence. She began to sit in the classes taught by Uddalaka and Kahola, listening to their chanting of the Vedic Mantras.

One day, as Kahola was reciting the Vedas within the hearing distance of the child growing in the womb. The embryo was aware of the correct pronunciation of every syllable since Sujata used to attend classes with rapt attention. When Kahola pronounced a syllable wrong, the unborn baby spoke up and corrected his father Kahola.

It happened eight times which upset Kahola and he cursed his son to be born with eight deformities. The baby was born with eight bends and was named "Ashtavakra".
