The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York held its annual soiree, the Costume Institute Gala 2012, on May 8. Here are a few pics of famous faces on the red carpet -- who do you think scored bigtime in the style stakes and who tanked? Vote and let us know!

Celebrities put their best couture-clad foot forward at one of the biggest fashion dos in the world yesterday.

The occasion was the New York Met Museum's Costume Institute Gala in New York and the theme this year was 'Schiaparelli And Prada: Impossible Conversations' -- an exploration of the similarities between Italian designers Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada, both legendary talents belonging to different eras.

A-listers from Heidi Klum to Chelsea Clinton and Beyonce were in attendance, all decked to the nines. But of course, not everyone was a hit on the red carpet -- take a look and let us know what YOU think of these styles by using the poll at the bottom of each page!

German stunner Heidi hoped to look racy in lace with this teal Escada gown, but it kind of underwhelmed in comparison to her fellow A-listers' outfits, don't you think?

Cameron Diaz

We're not too sure of this Stella McCartney dress on Cameron. It generated quite a buzz for being environment-friendly, given that it was made of Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)-certified silk and embellished with thousands of glass beads and crystal chains, reportedly weighing 30 pounds. Unfortunately, it made the actress look rather heavy-set too!

Gisele Bundchen

Brazilian beauty Gisele opted for a black Versace gown that played up her best assets and posed with confidence for the flashbulbs.

Also paying tribute to Prada was actress Carey, in a fishscale sequin creation that was arguably the most talked-about after the Met Gala.

We were less than impressed with Bey's dramatic Givenchy gown. While the new mommy's trim bod drew praises, we can't say the same for this sheer, feathered disaster!
