Here is a glimpse of the opening day of Delhi Couture Week on July 22, with showings by Varun Bahl and JJ Valaya. But it was golden girl Madhuri Dixit who got the most attention!

High-end designers from around the country are showcasing the best they have to offer at Delhi's ongoing Couture Week.

Day One started off with the ethnic elegance of Varun Bahl and JJ Valaya taking to the ramp, but first here's a glimpse of guest of honour Madhuri Dixit -- she created more of a buzz with her style than any model that evening!

The golden girl was as beautiful as ever in an ivory ensemble with rich embroidery and some truly eye-searing jewellery. And it was only after she was comfortably settled in the front row that things got off to a start.

Move on to the following pages for some ramp action...

Victorian touch

Varun Bahl kicked things off with his rich bridals, but there was a twist in the tale -- many of them had Victorian touches, such as this lehenga with a puffed-sleeve, ruffled blouse.

Next we have this tiny Oriental bolero worn over a red lace bodysuit and teamed with another heavy lehenga.

Seasoned stunner

Noyonika Chatterjee makes her way out in a pale blue and red lace-up corset outfit that shows off her supermodel frame.

The designer continues with his bodysuit trend, this time worn underneath a sari with gorgeous embroidered border.

We see Noyonika once more, this time in an ethereal ruffle-edged number.

The empress' clothes

Surelee Joseph looks like royalty in a red velour corset and heavily worked lehenga.

Tulle tantaliser

Flowing from an empire waist, this creamy tulle number is free-spirited and striking.

Shimmery style

Surelee takes a second turn on the catwalk in a heady mix of gold, champagne and hints of pink.

And finally, Bahl displays this plumped ghagara and shimmering choli in a vivacious combination of red, gold and blue.

But don't go away yet...next up is the handiwork of couture king JJ Valaya!

Midnight seduction

First up from Valaya is this shimmery classic black gown, a distinctly Western silhouette.

Switch of palette

Next there is a switch of palette to this white threadwork maxi, with a lovely brocade bolero to set it off.

Classic couture

Sanea Shaikh is as regal as they come in a black and white ghagara choli.

The sophisticate

This beautiful jacket and skirt, worn over churidaar pants and complemented by a neckscarf ooze sophistication.

All wrapped up

Indrani Dasgupta carries off this wrapped number, topped off with a knee-length ethnic jacket, to perfection.

Hot pink

For those who prefer showing off a little more skin, the designer offers up this sexy pink and red affair.

As high-end as they come

We've been seeing sari-jacket combos for awhile now, but this fantabulous piece of designerwear is quite something else!

Chic take

It's not always about opulence, is it? This pretty little churidaar kurti definitely gets a thumbs-up.

Belt it up

A rather earthy sari offers a funky twist with its little belt and pouch -- different, isn't it?

Best for last

Valaya reserves his best for last with this gold jacket and rich, rich lehenga -- if that's not bridal, nothing is!
