After what seemed like an endless wait, the 60th anniversary Playboy issue featuring Kate Moss is here.

The special January/February 2014 double issue is the 60th anniversary issue and the supermodel has posed for an 18-page spread shot by photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

News of Kate Moss being the cover girl for the bumper issue had been doing the rounds since as early as March this year.

Founded in Chicago in 1953, the iconic magazine was partly funded by a $1,000 loan from Hugh Hefner's mother. Since then it has gown on to becoming one of the most iconic brands with presence in every medium.

Besides featuring nude and semi-nude models, Playboy is equally known for its fiction contributed by writers such as Arthur C Clarke, Vladimir Nabokov, PG Wodehouse and Margaret Atwood among others as well as cartoons by greats such as Jack Cole, Shel Silverstein and Rowland B Wilson.

Now three former flight attendants who lost their jobs are following suit, baring all for Playboy magazine.

In the local edition of Playboy, the women posed semi-dressed in Varig-like uniforms on an airport tarmac, then took off all for a series of nude shots inside a plane.

Finally, we have the man behind the magazine. Founder Hugh Hefner poses for a portrait at his Playboy mansion in Los Angeles, California. The iconic mansion sits on a 5.3 acres estate and was purchased by Playboy from Louis D Statham for $US1.1 million. Besides 22 rooms that include a wine cellar, the mansion also houses a zoo, an aviary, a tennis courts and a swimming pool area. As of 2011, it has been valued at $54 million.
