LFW: Bold 'n' beautiful designs from Gen Next

Last updated on: March 6, 2010 14:55 IST

Eight budding young talents participated in the Gen Next showing that opened Day Two of Lakme Fashion Week. Kitschy and classic, daring and conservative, form-fitting and voluminous, here's a quick look at all their creations.

First up was designer Vipin Batra, with the collection 'Swirls of Light' from his label 'V'.  Seen here is Candice Pinto in a pretty cut-away jersey dress with sparkling detail.

Lisa Haydon accompanies Batra out onto the runway in a form-fitting spherical maxi.

Auction of Humanity

Next was the work of duo Sukhwant and Astha. The line, called 'Auction of Humanity', was inspired by the plight of slaves in Apartheid Africa and the garments reflected bondage themes.

This pinafore with bondage sleeves was worn over a checkered tee with matching belt.

Bubble trouble

Textured trend

Saugat Paul did not create a concept for his work, but resortwear it was -- quality resortwear at that. Seen here is a textured and pleated fuschia cocktail number.

Abstract style

Breezy summer

Surbhi Chawla opted for a breezy daywear collection, with light fabrics coming together to create 3D silhouettes. Diandra Soares models one of the outfits, a draping, chic cocktail.

Striking a pose herself

Miss Chawla turned out to be quite the fashionista, walking the ramp and posing herself! She is seen here alongside another dress from her collection, a pale peach number in gathers.

Yellow Dragon

Sandeep Sarkar showcased a resortwear line, 'Yellow Dragon', in citrus shades that represent the dragonfly of summer, spreading its wings and flying into the beyond.

Subtle grey is offset by bright sunburst sleeves with a transparent quality -- and we loved that collar.

A little of this, a little of that

Green and white come together on a silhouette that posesses both ethnic and Western porperties, as Sarkar poses alongside his work.

As You Like It

Aptly titled 'As You Like It', designer Siddhartha Upadhyaya's creations were reversible and even wearable upside-down! In addition, his label Aight (an acronym of 'I'm Alright') also creates eco-friendly apparel. Note the looped hemline on this multi-hued silk!

Sailor appeal

Classic blue and white are very becoming on this bow-detailed dress, which Upadhyaya brings out when his turn is done.

No Class

Nope, that's not our opinion, it's the name of Sabah Khan's collection, under her label Sabash.

Inspired by the slumdwellers of Dharavi in Mumbai, she put out garments that, in her own words, are "the perfect blend of colour, culture, traditions, economic dominance" that "reflect the charm, joy and energy of a city within the city of Mumbai".

The green dhoti pants and slouchy tube both get a double thumbs up.

Haute harlequin

Khan brings out a very harlequin-style design, with twrling skirt and fitted blouse boasting of vibrant hues.

Feminine funk

And finally, there was Pooja Kapoor, with a funky, fiercely feminine line of resortwear.

A curve-hugging jumpsuit stands out with its dual colour tone and figure-hugging cut.

Having fun
