These come loaded with features that help click superb photographs

As much as smartphones are used for surfing and playing games, they also feature some incredibly powerful tools for photography. The emphasis on ease of use and different features has definitely put camera phones ahead of most professional DSLR cameras for casual users.

Smartphones feature enough settings and modes to entice the most optical-minded among us. Some of them succeed at low-light photography and can even capture videos and images simultaneously. Others come with their own unique features that set them apart from the crowd. Here is our list for the top 10 smartphone cameras currently available.

Apple iPhone 5
Price: Rs 45,500

Apple's latest smartphone features a camera with an 8MP sensor, autofocus, LED flash and face detection. You can also tap to focus on images and record full 1080p video at 30 frames per second.

It also offers video stabilisation, which helps when taking moving video or shots. The newest feature of iPhone 5 is the Panorama, which allows the camera to stitch together several images and create one long scrolling image.

The presence of a 1.2MP FaceTime front camera allows for 720p video, which can be used for video chats.

LG Optimus G
Price: Rs 32,990

The LG Optimus G features a 13MP sensor on its camera, with continuous autofocus, HDR and LED flash. The camera functions quite well in low light photography and captures a good amount of detail in its shots. It can also record 1080p video at 30 frames per second.

Some of the more interesting features are the 'Cheese Shot', which takes a picture when you say the word 'Cheese' and 'Time Catch' which takes five pictures from the time you click the shutter button.

Burst Shot and Panorama modes are also present.

Nokia 808 PureView

Boasting a 41MP sensor, the Nokia 808 PureView incorporates Carl Zeiss Optics and 4x digital zoom along with Xenon Flash, auto focus, touch focus, auto exposure and face detection. It can capture videos at 1080p and 30 frames per second.

The large amount ofMPs allows the sensor to pack in a denser amount of detail in normal 8MP shots. It also features red eye reduction, and an image editor. Though the phone itself is underpowered and even a bit outdated, the camera is one of the best available today.

Nokia Lumia 920
Price: Rs 35,999

Nokia's flagship Windows 8 smartphone features an 8.7MP sensor. It features Carl Zeiss Tessar lens along with a dual LED flash and 4x digital zoom. Auto focus, touch focus, a BSI sensor, CMOS sensor, auto and white balance are also featured.

The camera's main claim to fame is the optical image stabilisation it utilises while capturing 1080p, 30 frames per second video and its lowlight photography. The latter is capable of capturing photos in the complete absence of light which the dual LED flash helps with.

It also boasts an image editor and multi-scene modes.

HTC One
Price: Rs 42,900

Despite featuring a 4MP sensor, HTC decided to put forth new imaging technology for its recent flagship phone. The HTC One thus uses 'UltraPixel' technology, which uses a bigger BSI sensor to capture more details. This is combined with autofocus, LED flash and optical image stabilisation for low-light photography and video recording.

The new ImageChip 2 further enhances image quality and allows HDR video recording at 1080p. The 2.1MP front camera is also equipped with HDR and can capture 1080p video. Perhaps the most interesting innovation is HTC Zoe, which generates a short video clip composed of roughly 20 high-resolution images.

HTC Butterfly
Price: Rs 45,890

As the first smartphone to ship with a 1080p display, the HTC Butterfly features some strong optics as well. It has an 8MP sensor with a wide-angle lens, BSI sensor, auto focus, auto and manual white balance. HDR, macro mode and low light photography is also possible.

An LED flash also helps with taking pictures and recording 1080p video. The 2.1MP front camera can record 1080p video as well, and has a BSI sensor and wide-angle lens. HTC's ImageChip brings simultaneous video recording and picture taking, while the Snapdragon S4 Pro provides plenty of speed when taking multiple pictures.

Samsung Galaxy S III

The Samsung Galaxy S III features an 8MP illuminated sensor with LED flash, autofocus, smile and face detection, and image stabilisation. It boasts of zero shutter lag which helps when using the Burst Mode.

It also feature simultaneous video recording and picture taking at HD resolution, and 1080p video recording at 30 frames per second. Samsung incorporates a mode called 'Best Face' which allows you to take multiple images of the same scene. It then allows you swap out faces of individuals from the shots taken so you can get the best expressions possible.

The front camera features a 1.9MP sensor that can record video at 30 frames per second.

HTC One X+

Armed with a 1.7 GHz quad core Tegra 3 CPU, the HTC One X+ is capable of taking pictures extremely quickly. The Burst Mode captures 20 images in a second.

The 8MP sensor comes with auto focus, which also benefits from the quicker CPU, LED flash, video stabilisation, and continuous shooting that can take up to 99 shots. It also features HTC's ImageChip, which allows for simultaneous video recording and picture taking. Video recording is 1080p and 30 frames per second.

The front camera features a 1.6MP sensor and captures video at 720p.

The newest feature is the Superior Auto, which automatically analyses a scene and chooses the best settings possible for the shot. This is highly beneficial with the new 1080p HD recording and 16x digital zoom.

Of course, the 2MP front camera has also been improved and now supports full HD video recording. The Xperia Z's fast CPU and RAM also make for fast picture taking.

HTC 8X
Price: Rs 33,550

Like its Android brethren, the HTC 8X features a dedicated ImageChip. There is also an 8MP illuminated sensor with wide angle lens, autofocus and a dedicated camera button.

It can record 1080p video at 30 frames per second. It is missing a large number of features from the One series, like HRD, panorama and burst mode. It does have PhotoSync which can create a 360-degree panorama and PhotoStrip, which shoots five images one second apart and then connects them together into a single strip.

The other unique feature is Bing Vision, which scans CDs, DVDs, barcodes for gathering information.
