Top 5 retro-racing games making a comeback
Remember the hours you spent as a kid playing Road Rash and Crazy Taxi? Well, they're back!
Back in the '80s and '90s retro games were all the rage as were the platforms they were played on such as the SNES, Dreamcast, Sega Saturn, Gameboy and PS1. They died a horrible death when games consoles and much more powerful hand held's appeared on the scene, such as the Xbox 360, PS3, PSP and Nintendo DS.
Even in today's day and age, with current console manufactures producing new games on an almost daily basis some 'oldies' still miss the good old retro-games and in particular the retro-racers.
The good news for those retro-racer enthusiasts is that they appear to be making a comeback across several different platforms, let's take a look at some of them.
Sega Rally Online Arcade
A Sega Saturn oldie is back and almost identical to the original, with the added multiplayer mode. Currently available through Xbox Live this retro-racer will set you back just 800 Microsoft points (around 6) and rumour has it, it will soon be available on the Playstation network as-well.
Although it does have a new multiplayer mode it does appear to be missing the old career mode and and tournament mode, both appear to have been replaced with a 'Championship Mode'.
Crazy Taxi
Originally a Sega Dreamcast release, Crazy Taxi has made a comeback on several different platforms including PSP and PC, it is also included as part of the Dreamcast collection for the Xbox.
The original was first published in 1999 by Sega and went on to be a big hit on Gameboy advanced, PS2 and the Nintendo Gamecube.
Super Mario Cart
As far as retro games are concerned one of the most popular and by far the most well known games on the old consoles we're the Super Mario games.
Back in the SNES days the console was usually shipped with Super Mario Brothers and later released Mario Cart.
Such was the popularity of this old retro-racing classic; the Nintendo Wii released a new version complete with a Wii control adapter in the shape of a steering wheel.
Project Gotham Racing
Better known in the Dreamcast days as Metropolis Street Racer, this Xbox arcade version will only cost you a few pounds and is available to all Xbox Live subscribers.
Any racing game fans who are desperately trying to save up for the top of the range current games, but are struggling to make ends meet should grab a copy of this, it's still a very satisfying experience.
This arcade classic is ideal for those who are not too fond of the super un-realistic, ultra customizable racers like Gran Turismo.
Road Rash
A slight change from the car racing games with this motorbike retro-racer, with the unique twist of being able to attack your opponents throughout the race.
Road Rash first came onto the scene on the Sega Genesis when boy bands and VHS tapes we're all the rage and is now one of the games included in the EA Replay collection on the PSP.
