The Google doodle today shows one of the interesting event of the novel where the protagonist Tom sawyer and his dear friend Ben whitewash a fence as part of punishment by Aunt Polly.

The aunt's angry because Tom soils his clothes after a fight with school friend.

Once readers click on the doodle it takes them to an illustration that shows Tom and Ben painting Google on the same fence as portrayed in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

Fourth and fifth alphabet from Google, namely 'g' and 'e', are however missing from the doodle indicating perhaps the paint work is on and will be completed soon.

Lauded as the 'greatest American humourist' Mark Twain was born in Florida, Missouri on November 30, 1835, interestingly, also the day of visit of Halley's Comet.

After the huge success of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer Mark Twain went on to write a sequel to it: Adventures of Huckleberry Finn nine years later in 1885.

As in his birth Halley's Comet also shadowed Mark Twain's death. Mark Twain died of a heart attack on April 21, 1910, a day after the comet came closest to the earth. In fact, Mark Twain himself had predicted that as he 'came along with it', he would 'go out with it'.

The Google doodle shows in the US, Asia and Europe.
