Nokia has started 2013 with a bang with the launch of three new Lumia phones -- Nokia Lumia 920, 820 and 620, for Indian customers.

Today, we are presenting to you our first impression of Nokia Lumia 820, with which we spent some time during its launch at an event in Delhi.

Nokia Lumia 820 is a mid-range smartphone based on the latest Windows Phone 8 operating system that delivers high-end performance.

Body

Like the previously launched Lumia phones, Nokia Lumia 820 has a unibody look and is quite stunning. Though it comes with exchangeable shell designs (for those one has to pay extra as they are not included in the box), the smartphone is available in the market from today in red, blue, yellow, white, and black body casing.

Unlike Lumia 920, 820 has a removable 1,650 mAh battery and expandable storage (32 GB) capability, which might be liked by a lot of users.

It has quite a clean and impressive design. The headset speaker is above the display on the front panel along with a front-facing camera and below the display you will find the back, start, and Bing search buttons.

The 3.5 mm audio jack is on the right side on the top panel. The volume, power, and camera buttons are all on the right and the micro USB port is on the bottom panel. The left panel is left blank and the camera, along with dual LED flash, is on the back panel.

Since the back panel is a removable one you will find the micro SIM card along with micro SD card under the cover.

Display

Nokia Lumia 820 has a large 4.3-inch ClearBlack Amoled display and even though the resolution is the same as that of the Lumia 800 it looks quite good.

Reading and navigating on the device even in bright sunlight is not an issue in Lumia 820 because of Nokia's ClearBlack technology. Apart from that, Nokia has also included touch sensitivity, as in its flagship Lumia 920, in this device too, because of which the device responds smoothly to touch from fingers, fingernail and gloves.

Processor and performance

Lumia 820 has a 1.5 GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 processor with 1 GB RAM. It has internal memory of 8 GB and supports Wi-Fi, 3G, NFC and Bluetooth connectivity. As we didn't have access to Wi-Fi or data network we played some pre-loaded games on Lumia 820 and that was satisfactory.

We will be in a better position to tell about it performance after we review the device in a couple of days.

Camera

The Lumia 820 doesn't have the most talked about PureView technology of the Nokia PureView 808, but it does have 8 megapixel Carl Zeiss optics, which takes decent pictures.

To add life and colour to pictures Nokia Lumia 820 comes pre-loaded with a Cinemagraph lens and Smart Shoot feature.

Cinemagraph adds simple animations to still photographs, while Smart Shoot creates a single, perfect shot from multiple images, even removing unwanted objects from the picture.

As far as the front camera is concerned the quality of pictures taken with it was good enough for video chatting.

Conclusion

Nokia Lumia 820 is a mid-range device but has got a lot of ammunition. It has definitely impressed us in the first look but we will reserve our final verdict till we do the complete review. Keep watching this space.
