If you are planning to buy a tablet device in the New Year, here's a quick take on the pros and cons of the top 5 tablets released in India in 2010. These are, of course, top 5 tablets according to the authors and the list or the order can change from reader to reader.

5. Nokia N900

Pros: Good reliable hardware platform, abundant applications, support for many video and audio formats, Skype and GoogleTalk VoIP integration, 3.5mm audio socket, great phone, DataViz Documents To Go Premium Edition document editor, PDF document viewer, good browser.

Cons: Expensive (newer hardware platforms are available for similar price), TFT resistive touchscreen, too small for a tablet (but it is a tablet!)

Pros: Reasonably priced, powerful hardware platform, optional dual mode Pixel-Qi transflective LCD display that saves power, multi-touch touchscreen layer, 3.5mm audio socket, can download apps from Android Market and upcoming Genesis marketplace, 2 USB ports, 1 HDMI port, back-side trackpad.

Cons: Tablet is still under development but seems promising

Price: Rs Backlit LCD, Wi-fi only (Rs 21,267 approx.), Backlit LCD, Wi-fi + 3G (Rs 23,767 approx), Pixel Qi LCD, Wi-fi only (Rs 27,473 approx.), Pixel Qi LCD, Wi-fi +3G (Rs 30,000 approx.) (Prices mentioned on site are in dollars excluding $50 shipping charge, but you have an option of ordering it in India)
