Last updated on: October 12, 2011 18:00 IST

The most talked about computer in the technology market these days is the tablet PC. Since March last year, the concept of computer on the go has been changed when Apple launched its first iPad, aspirational and profitable. It sparked rush from rival manufacturers to get a slice of the new market.

Amazon too joined, and now it is the turn of this Internet retail giant to give a tough competition to iPad.

Unveiled this week, and getting launched on November 15, the Kindle Fire from Amazon is said to be a premium product at a non-premium price.

It is priced less than half the price of Apple's iPad -- at just $199.

Let us compare Apple iPad and Amazon Kindle Fire in brief to understand better whether the new tablet is a serious challenger or both are different devices with different selling purpose.

Amazon Kindle Fire: Will it be an iPad-killer?

iPad and Kindle Fire are as dramatically different as their manufacturers, but price will play an important role in the market. Kindle Fire's biggest advantage is its price. More to this, Amazon has a good customer base that will be an added advantage and also an excellent pre-existing Kindle community.

Well, we should also not forget the user base of Apple. It has grown a strong following in the mobile market since the time iPod was launched few years back. Not to forget the immense popularity of iPhone, a revolutionary device having robust operating system (iOS' and capacitive screen).

Amazon veteran Eric Best said after the unveiling of Kindle Fire, "Getting this device into the hands of customers means Amazon can expand their e-commerce footprint -- this is a strategic focus for the company."

This is very true behind the marketing strategy of Fire. Amazon will be able to encourage customers more easily to shop online for physical products more often. The clue can be found with the redesign of Amazon main shopping site which makes navigating easier for mobile users.
