QS Global 200 B-schools 2012, IIM-A ranked number 2
The results of the annual QS Global 200 Business Schools Report have been released and India's Indian Institute of Management-Ahmebadad has been ranked second best next to INSEAD, Singapore in the Asia Pacific region.
The report compiled by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a leading networking organisation in higher education consists of 82 schools in North America, 67 schools in Europe, 36 schools in Asia-Pacific, 10 schools in Latin America and 5 schools in Africa and the Middle East.
The other Indian management institutes that have figured in the top 20 include Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (fifth), ISB Hyderabad (seventh), IIM Calcutta (eighth) and SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai (sixteenth).
The QS global ranking report has been compiled following the opinions of HR and line managers who employ MBA graduates.
Reportedly, IIM-A has shown considerable improvement in performance which explains why it has jumped to the second place from sixth position last year.
1. INSEAD Singapore
Established in 1957, INSEAD Singapore has campuses in France, Singapore and Abu Dhabi, besides a research centre in Israel.
The school offers a full-time MBA programme, a PhD in management programme, and several executive education programmes (including an Executive MBA).
2. Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad, India
Established in 1961, the institute has been providing the best of faculty members in the field of management in the country and has been consistently ranked among the leading schools in the country.
It has a 100-acre campus and enrolls about 800 full time students and 1,500 executives across 300 courses.
3. Melbourne Business School, Australia
On third place is Melbourne Business School, Australia.
Established in 1956 as the premier business school under the University of Melbourne, the first MBA degree that was awarded in 1965 was incidentally also the first MBA degree ever awarded to a student in Australia.
4. NUS Business School, Singapore
On fourth place is the NUS Business School of the National University of Singapore.
Established in the year 1905, it is one of the oldest autonomous institutions of study in Singapore.
The business school has six departments namely Accounting, Strategy and Policy, Decision Sciences, Finance, Management and Organisation, and Marketing offering courses at undergraduate and post graduate level.
They also offer graduate programmes which are collaborated with foreign universities like the NUS MBA Double Degree (conducted jointly with Peking University) and S3 Asia MBA (with Fudan University and Korea University) for the benefit of students.5. IIM-Bangalore, India
On fifth place is Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore, India.
Established in 1973, IIM-Bangalore is best known for its research facilities and has an excellent team of faculty members and department heads.
Interestingly, the college campus was used for the shoot of the Hindi film 3 Idiots starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor.
6. Australian Graduate School of Management, Australia
On sixth place is Australian Graduate School of Management, University of New South Wales, Australia.
Founded in 1977, it is also known as the Australian School of Business.
It offers a full-time MBA programme in Sydney, a part-time Executive MBA programme throughout Australia, a part-time Executive MBA in Hong Kong and a range of other executive education programmes to choose from.
7. Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, India
On seventh position is Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, India.
Founded in the year 1996, ISB, Hyderabad is associated with leading international business schools like the London Business School, MIT Sloan and Fletcher School.
8. IIM-Calcutta, India
On eighth place is Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta, India.
The IIM-C was established in the year 1961 as the first Indian Institute of Management in the country.
An institute par excellence, the institute is known for its extensive facilities and activities in the field of research and consultancy.
9. China Europe International Business School, China
On ninth place is the China Europe International Business School, China.
Established in 1994, it is one of the three international business schools affiliated with China's Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
The business school is a joint venture between the European Commission, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.10. The HKUST Business School, Hongkong
On tenth place is the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Business School, Hongkong.
Established in 1991, the HKUST B-school is the first business school in the region to be accredited by both the US-based Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) and European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS).
11. Beijing International MBA Programs (BIMBA), China
On eleventh place is Beijing International MBA Programs (BIMBA), Peking University, China.
Founded in 1998, BIMBA is a joint educational venture, between Peking University and its global partners, operated by the National School of Development (NSD) at Peking University.
12. Nanyang Business School, Singapore
The NBS offers undergraduate and graduate programmes, and is known for its state-of-the-art facilities and cutting edge research centres.
13. Sydney Business School, Australia
On thirteenth position is Sydney Business School, University of Wollongong, Australia.
The University of Sydney Business School which was established in January 2011 from former faculty members of the School of Business from the Faculty of Economics and Business.
It was the first business school in Australia to be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) from the European Foundation for Management Development. Reportedly, it is also the only Australian B-school to be a member of the Global Alliance in Management Education (CEMS).
14. Macquarie Graduate School of Management, Australia
On fourteenth position is the Macquarie Graduate School of Management (MGSM), Australia.
MGSM was established in 1969 and is one of the oldest and most established B-schools in Australia.The B-school offers both full-time and part-time programmes in management to students. It also offers doctoral programmes and several executive and corporate education programmes.
15. Monash University Faculty of Business and Economics, Australia
On fifteenth position is Monash University Faculty of Business and Economics, Australia.
Incidentally, the Faculty of Business and Economics at Monash University, Melbourne is also the largest university faculty in Australia and is well-known for its MBA programmes.
Recently, The Economist had ranked the Monash MBA as the best in Australia
16. SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, India
On sixteenth position is SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, India.
Established in 1981, it is an autonomous institution and also one of the few Indian management institutions to have international branches in Singapore and Dubai.
17. Faculty Of Business And Economics, Hong Kong
On seventeenth position is Faculty Of Business And Economics, Hong Kong from the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong
This particular faculty was started in 2001, roughly a decade ago to cater to the needs of professional business education in the country.Today it offers a wide range of curriculum under management education through its various programmes.
18. ANU College of Business and Economics, Australia
On eighteenth position is the Australian National University College of Business and Economics, Australia.
Also known as the ANUCBE, the B-school comprises various schools and centres of study, namely the School of Accounting and Business Information Systems (ABIS), the School of Management, Marketing and International Business (MMIB), the Research School of Economics (RSE) and the Research School of Business among others.
19. School of Economics and Management, China
On nineteenth position is the School of Economics and Management (SEM), Tsinghua University, China
Founded in 1984, the Tsinghua SEM was the first school offering economics and management education in the country and has been consistently ranked among the best B-schools in China.20. The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong
On twentieth position is the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Established in 1963, the Faculty of Business Administration is among its eight other faculties of education and caters to management and business education at a professional level
Together these faculties offer 117 undergraduate programmes and 247 post graduate programmes.
