Honda Dream Yuga

Honda has all of a sudden stepped up the game by announcing seven new products at the 2012 Auto Expo. One of these products -- Honda Dream Yuga Commuter Bike -- will get Honda the volumes in the Indian market and will help them challenge Hero MotoCorp.

Hero MotoCorp is the number one bike manufacturer in India and sells the most bikes in the country. The bikes which Hero sells are mostly re-badged Honda motorcycles with the core aspects coming from the Japanese automaker.

Engine, gearbox and various important parts are supplied by Honda. After the break-up, Honda was free to do what it wanted and Hero too was free to do the same.

The Dream Yuga is a 110cc machine, which is a mass market bike. It sits in the same segment as the CB Twister but lacks the stunning looks of the Twister.

Design inspiration comes from the CB Shine and the Dream Yuga is more of form following function. The bike looks competent on the outside to compete with mass commuters like the Splendor though and will be highly responsible to create volumes.

A Honda bike which is available cheap is not something that happens frequently. At an estimated price of Rs 46,000 for the Dream Yuga, Honda has a winner on its hands, which will be the prime runner for their number one position in India.

To displace Hero, Honda needs to launch such bikes and they are on the same path. Factor in the Honda reliability and quality, butter smooth Honda motor and low maintenance and all of a sudden, Hero's dominance starts to look on a decline.
