After its separation with Honda, Hero Motocorp has now launched its first Hero branded vehicle, the Impulse. Impulse, priced at Rs 66,800 (ex-showroom price Delhi), will be available by the end of this month.

Hero split from its long time partner just a few months ago and has now decided on a drastic change of its identity. The company launched its new identity and logo in London last month and has now launched its first Hero branded vehicle -- the Impulse.

The Hero Impulse is a dirt bike, which is expected to open a new segment altogether for India's largest two-wheeler manufacturer.

Few of the interesting features on this bike are the nitrox-gas filled mono-shocks, high ground clearance (to help it wade through rivers), large front wheel and stud type tread pattern.

The presence of a large disc brake at the front will ensure impulsive braking is taken care off, while the knuckle guards and high muffler will ensure the off-road experience.

Although Hero wants to create a niche segment, they have still opted to use a 150cc engine in the Impulse.

This motor produces 13.2 BHP of power and 13.4Nm, which will ensure decent performance in the city. Now the performance of this bike is quite good as the weight is quite low at below 130 kgs.

Add to that the 19-inch front wheels and instantly you have a bike, which is quite capable for city duties.

Available in five colours, Hero says the Impulse is a dual purpose bike, which can be used for both the road and off it. Now I am not sure of how many people really use their bikes off-road but considering the fantastic conditions of our roads, the Impulse is just what we needed.
