Law graduate S Divyadharshini from Chennai stands first in the prestigious examinations as the state sees three others in top ten.

Tamil Nadu has a reason to celebrate! Four candidates from the state have made it to the top ten of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam as results were announced on Wednesday.

One of them -- S Divyadharshini, a law graduate from Chennai, topped the list. This was her second attempt.

Reports suggest that of the 920 who have passed the UPSC exam about 86 candidates are from Tamil Nadu alone with four (including S Divyadharshini) being in the top ten.

This however is a fall from 127 who made the cut last year.

Maharashtra on the other hand saw 60 candidates making it to the elite services with reports suggesting one Rahul Rekhawar from Nanded topping the state list with an all India rank of 15.

5,47,698 candidates had applied for the prestigious examination that is the first step in becoming a career bureaucrat.

Of these 2,69,036 appeared for the preliminary examinations held in May last year and only 12,491 qualified for the main written examination (which is held in October every year).

For the final interviews 2,589 candidates were short-listed of which only 920 candidates made it to the top.

S Divyadharshini is one of the 203 women candidates recommended for appointments.
