Valentine's Day is the best day to propose: Survey

February 11, 2010 17:07 IST

Valentine's Day is still the most popular day to propose among Britishers, a survey has found.

Six in 10 women and four in 10 men prefer to propose to their loved ones on February 14, according to the survey
conducted by High Street jeweller H Samuel.

Romance, memories and a full stomach are the perfect recipe for an engagement proposal with more than one in two
men and women think that the best moment to propose is over a romantic meal.

Other top places to pop the question are at a first meeting place, on an exotic holiday or simply at home, the
Daily Mail reported. Office is the least romantic place to propose, according to the participants.

"We see that most couples are judging their own perfect style of engagement, without following age-old traditions and
managing not to offend their partner or their in-laws to be," said a spokesman for H Samuel.

The survey of 1,000 people also found that a new trend of women proposing to men is gaining popularity and over two
thirds of the participants found this idea great. "It seems that some romantic traditions are being ditched in 21st century Briton because of equality between men and women, but new trends are being created. We're now more likely to see ladies on bended knee than men," the spokesman said.
