'My first salary was Rs 450 for a part-time job'

October 13, 2019 08:20 IST

We'd asked you, dear readers, to tell us what your first salary was and what it meant to you at the time.
Rediff reader Mukesh B Nautiyal, 54 from Mumbai reveals how he spent his first salary.

Mukesh Nautiyal

In October 1983, I got my first job.

I had appeared for a walk-in interview in a small firm which was at walkable distance from my residence.

It was a part time marketing job and I was selected because I had good communication and presentation skills.

I was a sales representative in the firm.

My first salary was Rs 450.

It meant the world to me and my family.

From my salary I bought a nice cotton saree for my mother.

She was touched by my surprise gesture.

Unfortunately, I do not have a photograph.

Three months later, I got a permanent job in a private firm with a four figure salary.

Since that day, I haven't looked back.
