Top 10 most popular cities for selfies

A new research has revealed that these are the most popular in the world to take a selfie.

Ellen's got one, the Pope's got one too and closer home, fashion designers Shantanu and Nikhil tried to get one on the runway.

'Selfie' was 2013's Word of the Year according to Oxford English Dictionary and the world seems to have woken up to the obsession.

So much so that travel website Suggestme.com has researched the most popular places to take a selfie by analyzing 6.3 million social media messages from Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, among others and has drawn up this list.

With 4.25 per cent of selfies around the world being taken at Athens, the Greek city ranks number ten in the list of the most popular cities for selfies.

Predictably, the Acropolis topped the list of places in the country with 17.54 per cent selfies in Greece being shot before the historical monument.

Sydney came in ninth as the venue of 4.26 per cent selfies from around the world.

The Sydney Opera House, the Harbour Bridge and Bondi Beach were the top three most popular spots to take selfies, according to the survey.
