The Great Smoky Mountains of Tenessee may be one of America's best natural attractions but the real magic lies in its deep forests and wildlife says Poornima Guruprasad.
The Great Smoky Mountains of Tenessee are one of the best natural attractions in the US.
Though the local attractions and the Ski resorts in the city (Gatlinburg) are good enough to keep you busy for a week, the true beauty of the Smokies lies in exploring its deep forests and wildlife!
So, we tried to tread the nature's path for a change and drove straight into the lap of Mother Nature in the Smokies.
We started our trip from Charlotte, North Carolina at around 9am. It was a three-hour drive to Gatlinburg in Tennesse. But to enjoy closeness to nature, we had booked a wooden cabin located amidst the amazing mountain range, far from the city.
So, it was another three-hour drive from Gatlinburg to our cabin and the drive up the mountains was as thrilling as it could get. We drove on the mountain roads passing through the stunning Cades Cove valley and several river streams on the way.
We got lucky enough to spot a few deer grazing in the woods and wild turkeys running about in the valleys.
The roads, though, got narrower and steeper as we went higher up the mountains. To add to this adventurous drive, it started raining too!
After many 'heart in the mouth' moments, we finally reached our destination at around 5pm that day.
