Scooters have announced their arrival in India once again. This time with never-seen-before style and flamboyance.
The phenomenon that started with the Kinetic Honda about few decades ago has taken an entirely new direction. The suburban mass is highly influenced by the effortless ride of automatic scooters. As evident, with our overcrowded city roads, the clutch-gear exercise drives most nuts.

Hero Pleasure

Suzuki Access 125
It is meant for India’s 'Macho' men. Quite powerful, unlike its contemporaries in the segment, the 125cc, single cylinder mill returns a power output of 8.7bhp along with the CVT transmission. The front suspension is telescopic, coil spring and oil damped, whereas, the rear one is a swing arm type, coil spring and oil damped.
Both these suspensions and 120mm drum brakes at both ends account for a smooth ride that it offers.
Suzuki Access 125 delivers a mileage of 50kmpl which, again, is appreciable. With a 6-litre fuel tank, the scooter possesses the capability to conquer city traffic comfortably.

TVS Scooty Pep+
Heroic and outrageous style can't be expected from this simple and sober machine. The external appearance is extremely feminine and the colours the scooter is available in further confirms it.
Loaded with an 88cc motor, delivering 5bhp of power from the rear wheel, the TVS Scooty Pep+ weighs only 95kg.
Moreover, the CVT transmission ensures a smooth ride. However, it isn't comfortable with heavy loads and starts to choke.
The fuel economy is of 65kmpl and if, by any means, it further falls by 10 in city conditions, it still is acceptable.

Vespa LX
Vespa, launched in 2012 in India, is widely regarded as the scooter that introduced the style quotient in this segment.
Being a thorough eye candy, courtesy its vibrant colours, re-engineered technology and exhilarating style, the Vespa LX is elegant enough to be taken as a corporate vehicle.
It comes with a 125cc engine, a real performer, belting out a power output of 10.6bhp.
The single cylinder air-cooled engine with 3 valves is promising too.
Consisting of a 7-litre fuel tank, the company claims the scooter offers an average of 62kmpl. Based on a monocoque frame, it has 150 and 140mm drums at front and rear respectively.
Additionally, it features alloy wheels and hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear for a controlled and comfortable ride.

Honda Activa
It can be touted as the 'Miss Congeniality' of the scooter segment without a second thought, as Honda Activa is the only bike that could surpass sales figures of Hero Splendor.
Introduced in the year 2000, with a 102cc engine, the bike underwent a facelift later with a 109cc engine and 0.6bhp of power, slightly more powerful than its predecessor.
The plastic body was replaced by a metallic one. The current version of Activa returns a mileage of around 50-60kmpl, which is feasible for a 1-cylinder engine.
The bike also features drum brakes in the front as well as the rear end.
Furthermore, a ground clearance of 153 mm enhances its compatibility on Indian roads.
