According to a new survey, one out of four married Indians fear that their partner is cheating on them.

Streaming platform Hotstar in partnership with Mindshare, a global media agency and Unomer, a mobile market research firm recently released an independent study to help understand India's view on infidelity and relationships.

As part of the survey, participants from across India were asked to share their views about how well they trusted their partners.

The Hotstar 'Out of Love' survey revealed some interesting findings:

As per the study, 55% people (which includes over 50% participants from Mumbai and Delhi) had already checked their partner's phone without their knowledge and 45% wanted to do it too.

People in love marriages (62%) largely felt the need to pry on their spouses as against 52% in arranged marriages.

The suspicion of infidelity is higher in the India's north (32%) and east (31%). In the west and south, an average of 21% suspect getting cheated on. Suspicion is the highest in Jaipur, Lucknow and Patna, and least in Bengaluru and Pune.

The study also revealed how the definition of ‘an affair’ has evolved beyond physical intimacy.

It now includes emotional and social media influence as well.

In the survey, 47% partipants claimed that physical intimacy is the worst form of cheating while 37% felt the same about emotional infidelity. 16% respondents are bothered by social media infidelity.

Confronting infidelity

Seventy eight per cent respondents said they will be bold about confronting infidelity. Almost 50% were willing to forgive their partner’s infidelity, 20% are willing to forget while 30% claimed they will fight it out.

With 38%, Delhi topped the list with people who chose to fight while 48% from Mumbai said they'd rather forgive.

Those who were willing to forgive also shared their reasons.

Majority of respondents felt they'd forgive if it was a ‘one-time thing.’

Some others said the kids and future had prime importance besides dealing with societal or family shame that comes with infidelity.
