The next time you attend a party to shake a leg, you may want to ensure beforehand that your hands are not jingling inside handcuffs before the night is through.
In the wee hours of the morning on August 2, the Pune police cracked down on a youngsters' party taking place at a bungalow in Theur, on the outskirts of the city.
Four hundred and eighty nine management students -- 254 boys and 235 girls -- of the Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies were arrested for flouting rules at the Friendship Day celebration. The reasons? Playing loud music late into the night, consuming alcohol without a permit and organising a party without permission from the local authorities.
It was one of those social affairs where no drugs or any serious offences were involved. And yet, young college students, out for a night of fun, landed in the police net. In addition, the school is now creating a panel to take action against them for flouting hostel rules and staying out beyond their 12:30 am deadline.
A little bit of discretion on their part could have saved the youngsters a lot of trouble -- it always helps if one follows certain do's and don'ts on such nights out to stay on the right side of the law.
