BOLD or SCARY?

Last updated on: March 17, 2021 19:56 IST

Akshat Bansal's latest collection will make your eyes pop!

What can one possibly do with marine plastic waste that ends up in landfills and our oceans?

Designer Akshat Bansal has a solution. He has been using his label, Bloni, to promote sustainability in a creative way.

An alumnus of Mumbai's National Institute of Fashion Technology, Akshat's efforts to contribute towards environment protection and reduce carbon footprint were recognised when he made it to Forbes' India 30 Under 30 list of achievers last year.

At the ongoing FDCI X Lakme Fashion Week 2021, Akshat chose to showcase a gender neutral, eco-friendly collection titled Between XY. It explored the idea of turning marine plastic waste into wearable creations.

But some of the designs, including the scary face and eye make-up, have netizens divided about whether he achieved his goal.

Check them out here and tell us what you think!

'X is everywhere around us and represents the unexplainable or the unknown,' Akshat explains the idea behind his collection.

'Y questions our existence and everything around it in its truest form. Y is integral for the formation of humanity when combined with X but also doesn’t confine one to an identity.' Similarly, he says, clothes need not conform to any particular gender.

Akshat stuck to his tie-dye tradition and smartly blended it with fluid fabrics to create hybrid designs that will appeal to both men and women.

Glazed fabrics, transparent silhouettes and gender neutral shapes were the highlights of the collection.

It is a collection that, he hopes, will appeal to everyone irrespective of gender.

The use of black and white is interesting, but isn't this one too bold to be worn off the runway? Or you think it might set a new trend?

Besides the androgynous styles, it was the scary eye make-up and bushy brows that grabbed our attention.
