India shines at New York Fashion Week

September 12, 2016 15:30 IST

Take a look at the Indian influence on the NYFW runway.

It started with acid attack survivor Reshma Qureshi walking the New York Fashion Week Spring 2016 ramp.

She was joined by Sunny Leone, who became the first Bollywood celeb to strode the NYFW runway.

Close on Sunny's heels was Maharashtra Chief Minister's wife Amruta Fadnavis who walked at NYFW in handloom.

Then there were fashion brands like Banana Republic, who looked up to India for inspiration for its collection -- the focus was on craftsmanship and detail.

The result: pyjama-inspired paisley printed separates, laser-cut detailing and tunics worn over pants.

Take a look at the Indian influence on the NYFW runway.

2. Golden sequins and gem-studded dresses

Sequins

Don't miss the glitzy embellishments on the dress and those golden beads on the sandals from the Jenny Packham fashion show.

7. Paisley prints

NYFW 2016

IMAGE: The New York fashion week saw plenty of feather-shaped paisley prints from India like this one at the Banana Republic presentation.
For men, Madras plaid ruled the roost, with the fabric used in shirts, trousers and even ties.
