Your lingerie closet is bursting out of its seams with bras that are either too loose or too tight.

In another yet related story, your breasts are bursting out from the sides of your bra because you have been wearing the wrong size bra.

It's been time you upgraded your lingerie closet and uplifted your breasts (literally) with the right kind and right size of bra.

The right kind of bra will not just boost your confidence level and accentuate the shape of the breasts, but will also keep away all sorts of aches and pains that plague you when you wear the wrong bra size.

The first step is to select the right size of a bra for your breasts.

How do you know what size of bra to pick for yourself?

Get a measuring tape and wear a well fitted non-padded bra.

Remember, this is not a once in life kind of activity.

You should ideally measure your breast size every six months because when you pile on or shed those kilos off your body it does affect the size of your breasts.

How to measure your cup size

Step 1

Stand in front of a mirror and measure the fullest or largest part of the breasts.

Round the number you got on the tape measure to the nearest whole number. This is your bust size.

Step 2

Now measure yourself right under your breasts, where the band of the bra is sitting. This would give you the band size.

Make sure that the measuring tape is neither too tight nor too loose when you measure yourself.

Round off your band measurement to the nearest whole number.

For an even number, add four inches. For an odd one, add five to arrive at the final band size.

If the tape measure was 32 inches, your band size is 36 and if it came out to be 33 inches, your band size is 38.

Step 3

The bra size you need to shop for can easily be calculated by subtracting your band size (Step 2) from your bust measurement (Step 1) and referring to the bra cup size charts available online.

So a 37 inch on the bust – 34 inches on the band = 3 inches. Your bra size is a 34C as 3 connotes to a cup size C on the bra size chart.

Double check your calculation

Once you buy the bra in the size that you calculated, you can double-check if what you ordered is what you must wear.

The bra straps should neither keep falling off your shoulder nor should they be so tight as to give you red painful marks on your shoulders.

You can try adjusting the straps of your new bra but if the problem persists, measure yourself again.

The bra band should not ride up at the back and should be at the same level as that in the front.

You should be able to slide in only two fingers inside your band at the back for it to be a perfect fit.

Look at yourself sideways in the mirror and if your breasts are not sitting between your shoulders and elbow, the bra is not a perfect fit for you.

Wear a close-fitting top or shirt and if your cups pucker or the breasts bulge then that bra size is not right for you.

If you feel that you need to go down a cup size for a perfect fit, go up one band size, and vice versa.
