5 reasons to be excited about Lakme Fashion Week 2018

Here are the things you don't want to miss this season.

The most-awaited fashion extravaganza of the year is finally here!

Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2018, which kick-starts today, January 31 will continue till February 4.

A five-day event, it is here that fashion meets glamour. And this season promises to push the boundaries of fashion. 

Presenting five reasons we're excited that the fashion week has begun...

1. A torchbearer of inclusivity!

This season started with LFW partnering with Godrej Culture Labs in taking their commitment to inclusivity a step further.

They presented a stunning installation featuring ensembles by six young designers, who are breaking free of the norms of gender and sexuality.

This season will also see a collection by Half Full Curve -- the fashion label promotes body positivity and fashion for all sizes.

 

2. Kareena Kapoor makes a comeback after her pregnancy

The actor will be the showstopper for fashion designer Anamika Khanna, who will bring down the curtains to the upcoming fashion week with her collection 'Reinventing Nudes'.

The designer, known for her work with rich craftsmanship that blends Indian colours with global contours, will look at the nude palette from a different perspective, especially in a country where there are diverse skin tones.

 

3. Sushmita Sen turns showstopper for Kotwara

The actor will showcase the collection of poet-filmmaker Muzaffar Ali and his producer wife Meera Ali's label, Kotwara.

Titled Samanzar - A Garden of Flowers, the collection blends the old with the new.

The collection will showcase innovated forms of chikankari, zardozi, aari and muqqaish, including the creation of silhouettes, with fine muslin, sheer chiffons that blend with velvet and brocade.

 

4. Unveiling of the 'future couture'

A new fabric brand R ' Elan will be unveiled at the fashion week.

Fashion designer Anita Dongre will present a range of exquisite outfits fashioned from this new-age fabric as part of her exclusive collection.

 

5. An ode to sustainability

For years, Lakme Fashion Week has led the conversation of preserving and promoting Indian handlooms and textiles.

This season they will pay tribute to the rich heritage of Indian fabrics through specially curated shows by turning its focus to the northeast region.

IMG Reliance in collaboration with United Nations-India will present an action-oriented dialogue titled 'Catalyzing Sustainable Fashion'.

The aim being to help female textile artisans in northeast India grow their livelihoods and provide them with economic opportunities.

Designer Khumanthem will be showcasing cotton and silk handlooms made by the Meitei community in Manipur.

Daniel Syiem will be showcasing a collection with Ryndia silk artisans from Ribhoi district in Meghalaya.

Designer Aratrik Dev Varman of the label Tilla will showcase Riahs textiles by the Reang tribe in Tripura.
