Daman Brar was first introduced to modelling when she was in college.

In 2017, the young Punjabi girl, born and brought up in Jamshedpur made her way past over 150 talented girls, to be selected among the top 4 to walk for the Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai.

Daman, who has walked the ramp for Bombay Times Fashion Week and India Fashion Week in the past, reveals what's it like to be a model in India.

Your first modelling assignment

It was in college.

I was really nervous and I had worn such high heels.

I didn't get paid for it.

How do you stay so fit?

Yoga and eating clean food.

Your fashion mantra

Stay as comfortable and casual as you can.

The flip side of being a model in India

In India models don't get as much recognition as international models get overseas.

The most expensive outfit you ever bought

It was from designer Rana Gill; I didn't know about it and it wasn't so heavy on my pocket.

It was worth Rs 15,000 but I got it much cheaper.

Later when I knew who Rana Gill was I was pretty excited.

Tips for young models

Be yourself. Don't lose what you are from inside. This world is full of glitz and glamour. What you are as a person be that; be calm and composed.

If things have to happen, they will happen and things will fall in place.
