#GetTheLook! Sonam Kapoor and Monica Dogra

Last updated on: February 08, 2015 18:43 IST

In Vogue India's February 2015 issue, with celebrities' signature beauty looks as reference, Parizad Khan Sethi finds out how your make-up must-haves are a reflection of your personality.

Sonam Kapoor and the Power Pout

Just like her fashion experiments, Sonam Kapoor's beauty looks have run the gamut: she's given us faux bobs, Goth lips and doe eyes.

But what really gets our beauty juices flowing is when she slaps on the lip.

Dull brick, glossy tangerine, powerful pink, deep Bordeaux or pillar-box red, she's rocked them all, disproving conventional wisdom that "Indian complexions" can't carry off those shades.

And by doing that, she proves that lipstick is as much a state of mind as a colour.

"Sonam loves red lips and carries them beautifully.

"It is our go-to colour for red carpet events. I think it gives her a lot of confidence," says celebrity make-up artist Namrata Soni, driving home the power of a stand-out red lip.

Soni says Kapoor gravitates towards shades of red and orange -- Soni's favourites on her are NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl and Red Square, and L'Oréal Paris Colour Riche Lip Colour in Perfect Red -- and while the versatile star prefers matte textures in lip colours, she is not averse to switching things up with gloss when the mood strikes.

"Red really makes you feel like a woman," says Soni.

Monica Dogra and the neutral palette

Singer and actor Monica Dogra's ?gured out the best way to make her chiselled bone structure stand out -- by doing almost nothing.

Her striking features don't need much help, and her preferred nude colour palette allows her personality to do the talking.

"I feel like I have really strong features, and my personality and style is easy-going and understated. I'd rather be dressed down than dressed up, and my make-up re?ects that."

Dogra has made nude, barely-there make-up almost an art form.

Her look is always subtle, with an intriguing play of light and shadow that accentuates her cheekbones and glowing skin; it's an easy sophistication that is simple but never simplistic.

Dogra's arsenal is a list of solid basics: Urban Decay Bronzing Powder, Stila Kajal Eyeliner in Tiger's Eye, Chanel mascara, Bene?t Cha-Cha Tint, and Carmex lip balm.

"My personality is a bit bohemian and free.

"I'm an artist, and I'm pretty busy juggling multiple careers, so my look conveys the nature of someone who is constantly on the go."
