We'd asked you, dear readers, to tell us what your first salary was and what it meant to you at the time.

reader Hitesh Kumar Jha from Akola shares his story:

Mitesh Jha

I graduated in science from Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Darbhanga Bihar in 1994.

In December 1995, I started my first job as a trainee chemist in an edible oil company in Dharuheda, Rewari district of Haryana.

My salary was consolidated Rs 1,200.

After 10% PF (provident fund) deduction, I received Rs 1,080 in cash.

During that time after all my expenditure I could save between Rs 200 and 400 every month.

Once when my father visited me in 1996, I gave him Rs 2,200. I felt really glad doing that.

In 2007 I completed post graduation in chemistry from open university.

I have been working in the edible oil solvent and refinery plant for 24 years now.

I am currently associate vice president and head the Akola-based N K Proteins Private Limited.
