We'd asked you, dear readers, to tell us what your first salary was and what it meant to you at the time.
Rediff reader K Srinivasan, 54 who works as associate general manager, corporate relations at BGS Gleneagles Global Hospitals in Bengaluru shares his story.

K Srinivasan

Our family's financial condition was not so good, so I had to discontinue my studies and take up a full-time job very early in life.

I started my career as a marketing executive in a private pharmaceutical manufacturing company in Madurai.

In November 1982, I received my first salary of Rs 300.

I utilised the money to bring provision for my family of 10 who felt very proud at that time.

Gradually, I could work and simultaneously pursue my further studies with confidence.

I completed my graduation and majored in psychology from the University of Madras.

In 1986, I finished a paramedical opthalmic course from Madurai Medical College and followed it with a diploma in pharmacy in 1988.

After serving 20 plus years in the pharmaceutical industry, I have been working with BGS Gleneagles Global Hospitals for 10 years now.

I'm thankful to everyone for having taught me the importance of taking responsibilities at an early age.

A positive outlook towards life helped me quickly move on without much complaints and I could achieve what I'm today.

I hope my story will inspire the younger generation to achieve success through hard work.
