Dom's Take: JEE-NEET: Agni Pariksha ahead

August 28, 2020 15:25 IST

On August 17, the Supreme Court dismissed a plea seeking postponement of the Joint Entrance Examination and National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate examinations, which are scheduled to be conducted in September, amid the spurt in the number of COVID-19 cases, ruling that a precious year of students 'cannot be wasted' and life has to go on.

The issue of conducting the JEE-NEET exams has turned out to be a slugfest between the Union government and Opposition parties with six ministers of Opposition-ruled states moving the Supreme Court on Friday, August 28, seeking a review of its order permitting the Centre to conduct NEET and JEE exams.

On the other hand, 150 academicians from various universities in India and abroad have written to Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi, saying that delaying the medical and engineering entrance exams any further will mean compromising the future of students.

Dominic Xavier mulls over the Agni Pariksha for students caught in the tussle between the government and Opposition parties.
