Doctoral fellowships announced for women researchers

What: The Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta (CSSSC) announces Doctoral Fellowships for 2008-2010.

 

Two-year Fellowship, 2008-10

The CSSSC-Papiya Ghosh Memorial Fund supported by the Dorabji Tata Trust is offering one doctoral fellowship for two years to a woman researcher working on a theme related to Modern and Contemporary Indian History and Culture.

 

i) Applicants should be registered for their PhD in an Indian university or get themselves registered within six months of being awarded the fellowship.

ii) Applicants must be below 35 years.

iii) Applicants should preferably be from non-metropolitan centres.

iv) Priority will be given to certain areas of research namely migration and displacement, communalism, gender, histories and cultures of marginal sections of the population and non-metropolitan regions.

 

Format

1) The fellowship amount is Rs 12,000 per month with a research support allowance of Rs 10,000 per year.

2) The fellowship must be taken up latest by September 1, 2008

 

Deadline for receiving applications: July 15, 2008

 

Each applicant is required to send a research proposal of approximately 1,000 words addressing the fellowship's themes along with curriculum vitae to the address given below.

Short-term Fellowships, 2008-09
The CSSSC-Papiya Ghosh Memorial Fund supported by the Dorabji Tata Trust is offering two short-term fellowships of 3-6 months each to doctoral and post-doctoral women researchers working on themes related to Modern and Contemporary Indian History and Culture. The fellowships are meant for archival research, short-term fieldwork or for writing up completed research.

 

Eligibility:

1. Applicants should be registered for their PhD in an Indian university or have a recently completed PhD degree

ii) Applicants must be below 35 years.

iii) Applicants should preferably be from non- non-metropolitan centres.

iv) Priority will be given to certain areas of research namely migration and displacement, communalism, gender, histories and cultures of marginal sections of the population and non-metropolitan regions.

 

Format

1) The fellowship amount is Rs 12,000 per month.

2) The fellowship has to be taken up latest by October 1, 2008

 

Deadline for receiving applications: July 15, 2008

 

Each applicant is required to send:
i)  a research proposal of approximately 1,000 words;

ii) details of travel and research activities planned and the anticipated benefits for the project;

iii) curriculum vitae.
