A shikara ride

Next afternoon, the cab was waiting to take us to Jammu airport. We reached Srinagar in half an hour. Again there was a cab that took us to a houseboat on the Dal lake. The temperature was a cool 28 degrees Celsius.

We opted for a day in the houseboat and three more days at the Welcome hotel in front of the Dal. The houseboat cost us Rs 1,200 per day with two bedrooms. Welcome hotel charged us Rs 1,500 for a deluxe room per night.

We had lunch at a nearby restaurant -- there are many in front of the Dal Lake, some Punjabi restaurants and many others with reasonable prices and good food.

Airfare for Rs 599 and less!

We hired a shikara for Rs 300 and it took us through Nehru Park, Floating Garden, Floating Market, and other sightseeing spots. The experience is superb and overwhelming. I have seen such places only in the movies and in my dreams. We had snacks at a restaurant in Nehru Garden.
