Wear it like royalty

The last show of Day One at the Fashion Week in Mumbai was presented by designer Nandita Mahtani. And it had had a royal touch.

Her latest collection from her high fashion brand, Ananya, dazzled with rich velvets and brocades in colours like burgundy, navy blue, whites, mauves, gold and silver.

Models walked the ramp in brocade coats, shift dresses, embroidered skirts and double breasted coats worn as dresses.

The dresses had short hemlines, halter necklines, bell and mutton sleeves; there were sleeveless options as well. Velvet applique on leather-embroidered belts brought focus to the waist.

But the real surprise was the showstopper -- none other than filmmaker Karan Johar. He walked the ramp dressed in a black velvet achkan(a style which originated in Central Asia and was worn by Turkish and Persian royalty) with satin lining at the back and a brooch pinned prominently on the jacket.

Adding sparkle to the show were celebs Katrina Kaif, Shah Rukh Khan's wife, Gauri, Lara Dutta and Kelly Dorji, Vivek Oberoi, Dino Morea, Sohail Khan and supermodel Ujwala Raut.

Some glimpses of the show.
