Easy recipes for bachelors

Jan 16, 2007
A bachelor's life can be a breeze -- no responsibility, except towards oneself. And this responsibility extends to the kitchen. Though, one can always order in or eat out, it is not always feasible, whether healthwise or expenditurewise.

So, it pays to have a few failproof, easy-to-fix recipes ready at hand when you're in the mood to whip up something in a jiffy.

Here are a few to tide you by:

Gobi Manchurian

~Ingredients:

1/2 kg cauliflower
3 tbsp corn flour
1 medium green capsicum, cut into thin strips
1 onion, cut into thin strips
1 1/2 tsp tomato sauce
1 tsp soya sauce
A pinch of ajinimoto
1 tsp garlic paste
Red chilly powder to taste
1/2 tsp red chilly sauce
1 tsp chilly powder
Salt
Oil
Chopped coriander to garnish

Method:

Cut the cauliflower into small florets.

Soak it in hot water for five minutes and drain.

Add corn flour, salt to taste and chilly powder to cauliflower. Mix well so that cauliflower is coated with cornflour.

Heat oil in a pan and deep fry the florets till golden brown. Keep aside.

Add three tsp of oil in saucepan and saute garlic paste.

Now add the onions and green pepper strips and saute for two to three minutes till the onions are transparent.

Add the sauces and ajinimoto. Mix well.

Immediately, add the fried cauliflower and saute for two minutes over a medium flame. Garnish with chopped coriander.
