I had gone on a holiday in November 2005 with my fianc and sister.

I decided to claim my LTA on this amount.

Can I claim it my sister? She is dependent on me.

I got married in December 2005. Can I claim it for my wife?

- R Salvi

You can claim Leave Travel Allowance exemption for yourself and dependent sister. There is no clause for fiancs in the Income Tax Act.

  • When claiming my LTA for a trip I made last November, I was told by my office that I need to show the boarding pass. The ticket is not sufficient. Is that so?

I traveled on an Air Deccan flight with my husband and son. Since the arline provides only a PNR number, I have a print out from their website which states the ticket fares and the flight status as BOARDED.

Is that not proof that we have taken the flight?

    - Vidya Menon

You can produce the same and claim LTA exemption. It will be sufficient proof if it gives details of boarding and ticket fares.
